Detailed itinerary :

Day 1 – Hanoi arrival

Arrive in Hanoi and transfer to hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight in Hanoi.
    
Day 2 – Hanoi fullday city tour  
A full day city tour of Vietnam’s capital. Hanoi is a unique city with tree-lined boulevards, French colonial architecture, peaceful lakes and oriental temples. The city tour includes such sights as Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum and his house on stilts, the One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, the Quanh Thanh Temple and the Tran Quoc Pagoda on the edge of West Lake. After lunch in town continue to the Museum of Ethnology and end the afternoon with a visit to the Lake of the Restored Sword and a cyclo tour of the Old Quarter then enjoy the famous water puppet show before having dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Hanoi (B,L,D)

Day 3 – Hanoi-Halong Bay (kayaking)
After breakfast, leave Hanoi by road for Halong Bay. Enjoy the journey through the rich farmlands of the Red River Delta and the scenery of rice fields, water buffalo and everyday Vietnamese village life. Arrive in Halong and hop aboard the traditional boat. Whilst cruising the exquisite waters sample the regions fresh seafood. Visit the recently discovered Surprise Grotto with its great views, and on the next island see the yawning mouth of Bo Nau Cave. Alternatively journey to Dau Go Cave and nearby see the famous stalagmites and stalactites of Thien Cung Cave. There will be time for a couple of hours easy kayaking with a specialized kayak guide. Watch the sun set over the bay whilst enjoying a delicious dinner. Overnight on board junk. (B,L,D)

Day 4 – Halong Bay-Hanoi (kayaking & optional cycling to suburbs)
Wake up to fresh coffee and a wholesome breakfast before cruising back to Halong City. En route the junk weaves through strange-shaped rock formations that invite comparisons from fighting cocks to dragons and even General de Gaulle’s nose, enjoy the exciting  kayak through Luon cave (tunnel cave) paddle through the tunnel and emerge into a crater lake, surrounded by impenetrable cliffs and gliding kites. (Please note the trip to this cave is dependent upon tidal conditions)! After another wonderful brunch on board disembark at the dock at Halong City. Transfer back to Hanoi, arrival at Hanoi at mid-afternoon, options includes a Half-day cycle to explore the countryside along the Red River or But Thap pagoda in the nearby province of Bac Ninh. Overnight in Hanoi. (B,L)


Day 5 – Hanoi  Hue (Cycling to Thanh Toan Bridge)
Breakfast at your hotel, transfer to Hanoi airport to take a short flight to Hue. On arrival at Hue, met by our guide then transferred to hotel for check in. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Imperial Citadel from where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between 1802 and 1945 and cycling ride to Thanh Toan Bridge, along the way pass by villages, quaint shrines and endless rice fields. Enjoy dinner with Hue royal court music performace. Overnight in Hue(B,L,D)

Day 6 – Hue-Hoi An
After breakfast, enjoy a boat trip on the romantically named Perfume River to visit Hue’s best-known religious site, Thien Mu Pagoda, and the mausoleum of former emperor Minh Mang, in a tranquil setting of gardens and lakes, next visit to Tu Duc mausoleum. Lunch then leave Hue for Hoian, scenic drive via Hai Van Pass and stopping en route to see local points of interest : Marble Mountain and My Khe beach (voted one of the most beautiful beaches in the world) on the way to Hoi An. Overnight in Hoi An. (B,L)

Day 7 – Hoi An(Cooking class or biking out to beach/vegetable village)
In the morning, enjoy Vietnamese cooking class (lunch after cooking class) or bike out to Tra Que vegetable village or to Cua Dai beach.
In the afternoon, take a walking tour of the ancient town centre to visit the former merchants’ homes, the 400 year-old Japanese Covered Bridge and the colourful Hoian market.
Overnight in Hoi An. (B,L)

Day 8–Hoian-Danang       Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
After breakfast, free at leisure till being transfered to Danang airport for the short flight to dynamic Ho Chi Minh City, still called Saigon by many locals. On arrival, met by our local guide then transferred to your hotel for check-in or leave luggages, then visit the former Presidential Palace and the War Museum from there on you will go on foot (the car will be available at all times) to visit the major sights of colonial Ho Chi Minh City: the Notre Dame Cathedral, Old Saigon Post Office, Opera House and City Hall. After these historical visits, enjoy funny shopping at Ben Thanh market. Dinner cruise on Saigon river. Overnight in HCMC (B,L,D).

Day 9 – Ho Chi Minh City-Cuchi tunnel (biking)
Depart Ho Chi Minh City in the morning for the drive and cycling to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Leaving the city behind, the scenery changes to views of rice paddies, villagers drying noodles by the side of the road and other everyday activities. Travel by bus then cycle backroads to Cu Chi tunnels.
On arrival start the visit with the Ben Dinh or Ben Duoc  sections of the tunnel. Here you can imagine how a guerrilla lived and fought in such difficult, dark and narrow environment. Back to HCMC at early afternoon, free for the rest of day. Overnight in HCMC (B,L)

Day 10 – Ho Chi Minh City–Cai Be–Vinh Long (Mekong Delta)
Depart for Cai Be, deep in the Mekong Delta, and embark on a cruise to explore the delta. The tour begins with a visit of the colourful Cai Be floating market, followed by a visit to some local home factories that produce rice paste, rice popcorn and coconut candy. Proceed to evergreen islands among the Mekong River through a large network of meandering tributaries, crisscrossed with countless arroyos. Enjoy lunch at a fruit orchard or riverside restaurant. After lunch, enjoy a short biking along narrow country lanes and easy dirt tracks and trails before the cruise to Vinh Long to discover beautiful landscapes along the river and observe the typical Mekong Delta rural life. Drive back to Saigon. Arrival at late afternoon and overnight in Saigon. (B,L)    

Day 11 – Ho Chi Minh City departure
Departure day. At leisure for shopping until transfer to Tan Son Nhat Airport for onward flight. (B)
